This site is dedicated to all the animals in America that have lost their lives in vain and those that sit and wait for someone to save them.
I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.
~Edward Everett Hale
PainfulTruth.org has many reasons for being here. We are here to be a home base for rescue operations across the United States. To encourage readers to get involved in their community helping animals in need. Educate the public on animal abuse and neglect. Highlight those animals and people that have gave so much if not everything. The survival celebrations, as well as the heartaches, keep pushing us to keep going. We know we can not save them all but one by one together we can save them. It is the Painful Truth.
Every penny donated will be used towards pulling death row animals before they are euthanized. Get them their shots and other vet care that is needed. Donations are also used to help in transportation to get the animals to rescues across the United States. Sometimes the only thing between life and death for them is just a ride or a foster home.
Thanks to wonderful sponsors we raised enough funds to drive to Texas and get Kody! He is here!
Kody is from Texas. Young County Humane Society as well as Cathy Gallagher put a plea out to get him rescued. He had been at the shelter since the start of May and just was sitting there not adopting out or getting into rescue. The moment Courtnee saw his picture she knew in her heart he was the next rescue. Kody was on a list of one of the dogs to be put down as the shelter is full. This shelter is not a slaughter house like many out there are. This shelter really cares about their animals, but when full they have little options and must make room. This Humane Society has been amazing to work with and we can't speak highly enough about them. At first we thought from the post he could hear but was blind. The Humane Society told us that he was only blind in one eye. We later found out that Kody is deaf and blind when the Humane Society took him to be fixed. It did not change our minds and only opened our hearts more for this boy. Ashley and Courtnee came up with a list of named and fans picked Kody as his name. It fits him well.

Mitchell is from Birmingham, AL. Picked up as a stray he made his way into the shelter, a shelter which is so overloaded they have to destroy many of the dogs that come in. Mitchell was lucky to have a lady in his life named Garland Clark. She goes around taking pictures of the animals in the shelter to display them on Facebook in albums titled "Shelter Faces" in order to show their faces to the public, and plead for their rescue. The pictures are not quick snapshots, they are taken with care. Very moving photos. This is how we found him. Mitchell was adopted by a wonderful couple that tried so hard to give him a home. He did not get along with their male dog in the home as MItchell is Alpha and he wanted to eat their cat as a snack. Since they signed a contract for Mitchell they had to take him back to the shelter. He had some interest from rescues close to him. Everything seemed to fall through for him. He was a staff favorite and they worked so hard to keep him around and find him rescue. We tried three different times and the third time is a charm. We finally got the okay to rescue this boy.

We Need To Get Kuma Some Wheels!
I thought I would give an update and some of the things we're trying to do here at Painfultruth.org as far as the handicapped pets section. First of all, if you notice... Kuma is now missing one of his legs. Just last week he obtained an injury to his left rear leg and got quite the nasty infection in it. Instead of risking his life by him getting sepsis, I chose to have the leg amputated. This means now we really need to get him a wheelchair! Courtnee and I have been talking a lot about some of the great things that can come out of this situation. Being that wheelchairs are quite spendy we're trying to raise the money by asking for donations. Even if 40 people donate $10... that'll get him his legs back. He hasn't been slowed down by this at all... in fact he's mad a me right now because we're having to contain him so he doesn't rip his staples out. Only another week and we can get them taken out and he can get a bath! So, what we're trying to do is get Kuma a wheelchair and then fund raise for other things needed by handicapped dogs... including other wheelchairs. I know they are needed out there and they are not cheap! Just to further promote and encourage people NOT to put their pets down because they can't afford them. We want to start getting the handicapped dogs in the area together and get a local support system going as well, which I think is a fantastic idea!
I have started a chipin website for people to make donations to getting Kuma some wheels. The web address is http://getkumawheels.chipin.com/kumas-wheels. Even if you can only donate $5... that's $5 closer to him being able to run and be the crazy corgi he is. I plan on buying his wheelchair from handicappedpets.com so you can see the pricing and style of chairs they have on that site. They are very durable chairs. If you have any questions about any of this please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . I'll keep you posted on Kuma's status! Thanks everyone for your help and support!
God Bless,
Ashley
