Why We Are Here

The site was created by Courtnee after she rescued her Weimaraner, Shayla. The urge to step up and do something kicked in, with motivation from Shayla's story, the idea of painfultruth.org was born. Courtnee is focused on not only the site but also doing hands on rescue work along with volunteering at her local shelter.

One story that Courtnee ran into back in 1999 has always haunted her. The story of Ellis. Ellis The American Dream.

When we picked him up at the shelter and put him inside my car, every time he moved or shook, there were pieces of skin flying around us!!! YES, PIECES OF SKIN were flying inside the car. I remember telling Marlen as we were choking from the rotten odor, "DON'T OPEN THE WINDOWS!" She could not take the rotten odor and wanted fresh air. I asked her not to open the windows as the air flowing in would make things worse.

EllisideThe story was a rude awakening. The condition that Ellis was allowed to deteriate to before being picked up of the streets was unbelievable.

Did no one see this dog? Sure they did. Why did no one do anything? Why was he allowed to get this bad? Courtnee could not believe this was a Rottie!

The angels that took Ellis from the shelter and gave him a wonderful life found a place in Courtnee's heart forever. Inspiration that when most would give up or obviously not care, someone out there, still is willing to take on the task. Motivation that animals just like Ellis and yes some are even worse need your help. There is so much that each of us can do that can make a big difference. Courtnee hopes this site helps leads you in the right direction to start volunteering and supporting rescue efforts. Donating old items laying around the house, the newspaper you toss out, old towels, old blankets and/or giving money donations. Even just $5 makes a difference. Volunteer your time at local shelters to walk the dogs, hold the cats and give them human touch.

The first dog Courtnee rescued was her very own Weimaraner, Shayla. She was in a no-kill shelter but had been brought there four different times by the time she was 9mo of age. Lack of education on the breed and no training created a very rough start for Shayla's life.  Courtnee understanding the breed and their high level of care brought her home. Shayla motivates Courtnee everyday to keep going. Read Shayla's story here.

Courtnee's first death row dog was Jackson saved with Ashley. Saved hours from death. Read his story here.

Rescuers hear over and over again "you can not save them all" and we respond with "I'm not trying to save them all, I can't, but I can save them one at a time". In the end one at a time makes a huge difference.
